I am getting rather sick of this blasphemy law. I agree in principle, of course but the lack of evidence, the amount of hearsay involved makes the system so dubious it is no longer fair.
So a group of women are going to collect water. A Christian or something else woman joins in, but the gang does not want her near their water. Clearly a violation of minority rights. Anyway, the group goes on record to say she disrespected our holy Prophet. Now, here are my points:
a) you disrespected her first;
b) even if she was stupid enough to stand up for her rights, she was not likely to go on bashing the Prophet, but would have told you to be more like him… that he taught you all to be better; and
c) the Holy Prophet forgave all those who disrespected him …. And most of these people converted touched by his compassion.
Now here we are using his name to malign a woman who has little evidence to defend her. I wonder why women of this country do not unite against a male patriarch, a molester, a rapist, an abusive husband …. Because we like to walk over the weak, the vulnerable.
So the highlight of this morning’s one-minute scroll through the newspaper was this story from the Daily Times:
KARACHI: Police says a doctor has been arrested on suspicion of blasphemy in Hyderabad. Naushad Valiyani was detained on Friday following a complaint by a medical representative who visited the doctor. “The arrest was made after the complainant told the police that Valiyani threw his business card, which had his full name, Muhammad Faizan, in a dustbin during a visit to his clinic,” regional police chief Mushtaq Shah told AFP. “Faizan accused Valiyani of committing blasphemy and asked police to register a case against the doctor.” Shah said the issue had been resolved after Valiyani, a member of the Ismaili community, apologised, but local religious leaders intervened and pressed for action. agencies
So, when my name has Muhammad in it… I become a representative of the Prophet. And throwing away MY card is blasphemy.
Mr. Faizan when your mother threw away your old school books with your name on them, was she committing blasphemy? What about the letters and bills and envelopes with your name on them that YOU throw away? What about all the wedding cards/newspapers/calenders we throw away with Allah’s name on them? Because there is no ownership of those cards, because no self indulgent man seeks claim and mostly because we are the majority in a muslim country.
I’m stating the obvious but I am appalled. Of course I still think that our media however good likes to highlight the negatives more than the positives, but I also know that as a society we do the same. So although Mr. Faizan “forgave” poor Valiyani the religious clerics thought they knew better.
Of course they did!
I’m just sick to my stomach. That’s all.
